Earlier today, we released our August 2024 Client Newsletter from R. F. Meyer & Associates. If you did not receive it by email, please find a link below to access it in PDF version from our website.

Topics covered by articles in the August 2024 edition include:

  • Updating your Estate Plan: Five years is a good rule-of-thumb timeframe for regular reviews and updates to any Estate Plan. But “life events” within that span might need to be addressed with updates to your key planning documents, too.
  • Inpatient vs. Observation hospital stays: If you or your loved one will need a stay at a Skilled Nursing Facility following a hospitalization, how your doctor classifies the hospital stay is a big financial deal. The new, bipartisan “Improving Access to Medicare Coverage Act” addresses this tricky – and potentially very expensive – distinction.
  • New Rule changes rent consideration for SSI recipients: The modest income available to Supplemental Social Security recipients is reduced when they pay less than market value in rents, to say, a family member they may live with. A new Social Security Administration Rule going into effect next month will reduce that penalty.

I hope you find these articles informative and interesting. We’ll be back with another dose of news and tips in September.

Sincerely,

Richard F. Meyer, Esq.
