A little earlier this afternoon, we released the R. F. Meyer & Associates’ January 2025 newsletter. If you did not receive it by email, please see the link below to open it from our website in PDF form.

Our three articles in the January 2025 newsletter present information on important issues for our Elder Law clientele. They cover:

  • Protecting the healthy spouse when one spouse needs Medicaid for nursing home care: Each year, the feds issue updated guidelines outlining how much of a couple’s assets a healthy spouse can keep while their spouse gets Medicaid for the long-term care they need. The strict rules are among the toughest to keep up with, but allowances for how much property and expenses income the healthy spouse may keep both have increased for 2025.
  • Care for family caregivers. A new study estimates 11 million Americans serve as family caregivers for loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s – a number expected to rise to 14 million in coming years. And the study places a number of the cost of those services: If family and friend caregivers were paid for these services, they would bring in an estimated salary of $114,000 a year! But moreover, the study suggests these caregivers face a heavy risk of burnout and depression. Our article presents a variety of resources available to provide these valuable family caregivers with support, education, and respite.
  • Medicare’s Annual Wellness Visits: AWVs are covered for all Medicare Part B recipients, but they are not the annual physician exams you may have become used to before retirement. You need to do your homework and be prepared, to avoid additional, uncovered costs. This article is a primer for that preparation.

We hope you enjoy our January 2025 newsletter and find these articles informative. As always, if you need help navigating any of these topics, please contact the experts at our law offices. Stay warm and look for our next newsletter in February.

Sincerely,

Richard F. Meyer, Esq.
